Malaria No More - Muundo face filter

A pro-bono project for Zero Malaria to create an Instagram filter for influencers to use on World Malaria Day to raise awareness of the disease and what can be done.

The Zero Malaria campaign has a strong visual style, using the artwork of Laolu Senbanjo who is famed for his body paint tribal designs. Naturally our approach was to adapt artwork Laolu had created for the campaign to create different face filters that could be swapped in real time.

The problem solving came in producing shaders to animate the painting of the artwork in real-time, without the need for bulky image sequences or video. My solution ended up taking one image for the design, and another with a gradient used to reveal the artwork.

The filter was hugely successful for Zero Malaria and won several design awards.
