Heriot Watt - Science Centres

Heriot watt-science-centres University in Edinburgh required three films to showcase the exciting work happening in their new Science centres in the fields of earth and marine sciences, robotics and achieving a zero-carbon future.

Our in-house team planned a series of shoots which would require graphical intros and inserts to abstractly communicate the ideas being taught at the University. The brief was open-ended but realism in the textures and impactful sound design were key to align with the high resolution footage captured on-site.

The videos used a mix of native Cinema 4D tools and X-Particles for the Earth and Marine Sciences intro.

Some of the simplest executions ended up looking most realistic; applying height data as sub poly displacement to stock imagery of rock layers to simulate valleys.

I made use of billboards in the zero-carbon future intro, and used post processed depth of field in many shots to cut down render time.
